Hi my name is Sherie Leslie and I have been the Guidance officer at Berserker Street State School since the beginning of 2013. I am based at Berserker Street State School full-time, through the National Partnerships Agreement. I have enjoyed being part of a great team of professionals who are exciting and challenging educators, and have found the students, staff and parents of Berserker’s community to be friendly and welcoming.
I began my teaching career in Rockhampton after completing a primary teaching degree at Central Queensland University. After working as a teacher in a number of primary schools, I began working in a secondary teaching role, working for many years in a Special Education Program. Here I developed a passion for working with children with high support needs. This passion inspired me to complete post graduate studies in a Graduate Diploma in Learning Management (Special Needs), also through the Central Queensland University. In 2010, I began working in the role of guidance officer after completing a Masters of Education (Guidance and Counselling) at the University of Queensland. Since that time I have worked as a Guidance officer in a large number of schools in the Emerald, Gladstone and Rockhampton area.
My role as the guidance officer involves providing specialist advice and reports on students in areas relating to disabilities, developmental levels, and psychological and emotional status. I provide support to schools, students and parents for the educational, physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of children.
I offer a variety of exciting guidance programs in a range of areas such as; social skills, anger management, behaviour support, and increasing the resilience and self-esteem of students.
