Welcome
to our wonderful school. We pride ourselves on delivering an excellent
curriculum and have a rigorous learning environment that has at its core being
safe, tolerant, respectful and inclusive.
We
are dedicated to providing our students with the support they require to reach
their full potential. Our school is
staffed with a comprehensive network of teacher aides and specialist support
teachers, enabling our teachers to provide a differentiated curriculum supporting
the individual needs of each of our students.
Our school has
developed comprehensive processes to provide academic and non-academic support
to address individual student needs. We have a full-time Guidance officer, Sherie Leslie, who provides
support for our students and families and links with community groups and
support providers. The school is
dedicated to supporting and encouraging
students to develop their social/emotional, behavioural and academic potential
through a variety of dynamic programs, including early identification and
proactive intervention programs, mentoring programs and friendship groups. The school
employs a Speech-Language Pathologist two days per week who provides targeted
programs for our students with a specific focus on improving outcomes for
students in the early years.
We
prioritise the development of strong and productive partnerships between staff
members, students, parents and the community and strongly encourage our parents
to become partners in their child’s education.
We host several major community events each year to celebrate the
wonderful achievements of our students.
We use our fabulous facilities to provide a range of opportunities for
students. We provide structured lunchtime sport and dancing every break in
our Sports Stadium and students also love participating in our B-Fit program
which is offered before or after school several days a week. Our library is
open at lunchtimes to enable computer access, borrowing, research as well as
some fun puzzles and games to ensure all students have a quiet, cool
alternative.
Our
Active After School Sport program is free and runs two afternoons a
week. We also offer a range of sporting opportunities within the school
including carnivals and interschool sport. All students participate in a weekly
physical education program with a specialist teacher starting right from Prep,
and many take advantage of a range of specialist coaching sessions before and
after school.
We
provide a rich cultural program with our students having the opportunity to
participate in our instrumental program (woodwind, strings, brass and
percussion), choirs and signing choirs and a range of instrumental
ensembles. Our annual Twilight concert
is a highlight, showcasing the talent across the school.
Our school offers AUSLAN (Australian Sign
Language) as the LOTE program from Prep to Year 6. Participation in this
program equips our students with the skills to communicate in AUSLAN and
develop a deep understanding of Deaf culture and Deaf history.
Students at Berserker are provided with
the opportunity to work together and use creative problem solving skills
through our involvement in the annual OPTI-minds event. In 2017 our team placed
first in their category in the Regional finals and were invited to participate
in the State finals in Brisbane.
Our
school has a strong commitment to developing student skills in technology with
students provided with a range of learning opportunities including designing
and building LEGO Robotics and creating 3D art work with the 3D printer in our Innovation
Centre.
We
are a school that prides itself on our safe, caring environment. We have high
expectations of our students and welcome new enrolments. Our highly
accomplished and dedicated leadership team, teaching and non-teaching staff
welcome the opportunity to work with you and your family. We are incredibly
proud of our great school and the opportunities we provide for our
students.
