Principal’s welcome

Welcome to our wonderful School. Berserker Street State School is an exciting place with excellent facilities, staff and programs.

We pride ourselves on delivering an excellent curriculum with multiple opportunities for extension and enrichment.

Principal Mrs Rebecca HackOur most recent State-wide Teaching and Learning Audit awarded our school two 'Outstandings' and four 'Highs'. With only a handful of Outstandings awarded across the State, this is recognition of our high standards and quality teaching programs.

Berserker Street State School signed one of the first National Partnership Agreements in the country in late 2009. This agreement with the Federal Government has provided us with unparalled flexibility and resourcing. We are able to support our students through a comprehensive network of teacher Aides and specialist learning support teachers. This enables class teachers to spend time extending our gifted and talented students within the classroom.

We have a full-time Guidance officer, Brendan Jamieson, who coordinates Access – our Wellness Centre, and links with community groups and support providers. Learning circles, coordinated by Tenille Sealy, is our Indigenous Learning Centre, providing cultural awareness and inclusion programs within the school.

We use our fabulous facilities to provide a range of opportunities for students. We provide structured lunchtime sport and dancing every break in our Sports stadium, and the library is open at lunch and before/after school to enable computer access, borrowing, research as well as some fun puzzles and games. We also maintain an air-conditioned games room at lunchtime as another quiet, cool alternative.

Our Active After School Sport program is free and runs two afternoons a week. We also offer a range of sporting opportunities within the school including carnivals and interschool sport. All students participate in a weekly physical education program with a specialist teacher starting right from Prep, and many take advantage of a range of specialist coaching sessions before and after school.

Our cultural programs are highly regarded with our renowned Bamboo Band recently returning from a successful tour, and stealing the show as guest performers at the Annual Mayoral morning tea. We also offer instrumental music (woodwind, strings, brass and percussion), choirs, signing choirs and a range of ensembles. Our annual Twilight concert is a highlight, showcasing the talent across the school.

We are a school that prides itself on our safe, caring environment. We have high expectations of our students and welcome new enrolments. For more information, or to arrange a time to see our school, please call (07) 4999 0333.
