Assisting Children to Connect with Education and Support Services (ACCESS)

As part of the National Partnerships Agreement, Berserker Street State School has shown it’s commitment to student wellbeing through the opening of its ACCESS room. ACCESS is coordinated by our full time Guidance Officer, Brendan Jamieson. Brendan has developed strong relationships with many children and their families, offering a variety of support services to enable children to get the most out of their education.

The aim of ACCESS is to further develop our ability to support children and their families through offering a more comprehensive service, focusing on early intervention and prevention of academic, social/emotional and behavioural difficulties.

At Berserker Street State School we value and encourage partnerships with parents and the community. ACCESS assist families by connecting them with community agencies that offer a variety of supports to help them with the complexities of raising and educating their children.

Research demonstrates that effective schools have high levels of parental and community involvement. This involvement is strongly related to improved student learning, attendance and behaviour. Family involvement can have a major impact on student learning, regardless of the social or cultural background of the family.
